A wage moderation targeting higher salaries
Since 1 June 2026, salary indexation remains full up to €4,000 gross per month. Beyond that, only the portion of the indexation rate exceeding 2 percentage points applies to the excess part of the salary.
A formula read by bracket
A €5,000 salary indexed at 3% does not receive €150 (5,000 × 3%), but €130: €120 on the first €4,000 (at the full rate), and €10 on the remaining €1,000 (at the reduced rate of 1 point, i.e. 3% minus the 2 neutralised points).
What this calculator does not do
It does not calculate the sectoral indexation rate itself (fragmented across joint committees), nor the cumulative tracking of multiple successive indexations within the same cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't this tool calculate my indexation rate?
The indexation rate depends on your joint committee (sector), there are hundreds in Belgium, each with its own calendar and mechanism (monthly, quarterly, annual, or triggered by exceeding the pivot index). Impossible to generalise this into a single reliable scale. This rate is communicated by your employer or published by your joint committee.
Does this cap apply to all sectors?
Yes, to all sectors, private and public, regardless of the indexation system (legal, sectoral, or company-specific), this is a uniform federal mechanism, unlike the indexation rate itself which remains sector-specific.
What happens if my sectoral indexation rate is below 2%?
No effect from the cap: the neutralisation only concerns the portion of the rate that exceeds 2 percentage points. Below that, indexation remains full even on the portion of your salary above €4,000.
Why are there two cycles (2026 and 2028)?
The mechanism applies twice with the same parameters (identical threshold and cap): a first time from 1 June 2026, a second from 1 January 2028. This is not a gradual evolution of the parameters, simply two successive application windows.
