Belgian state pension 2026 : order of magnitude for an employee
Estimate the order of magnitude of your future state pension as an employee, from an average salary. Free, with Federal Pension Service benchmarks.
⚠️ Educational order of magnitude only, based on an average salary you estimate yourself, not an official calculation based on your actual career. For your exact career record, check mypension.be.
Your career (employee)
Capped at 45 years (normal career duration), beyond that, no further gain.
An estimate, not just your current salary, the tool automatically caps it at the applicable salary ceiling (€82,608.94/year in 2026).
The household rate applies if your partner has no income or a limited income.
Enter your career years, average salary, and family situation.
An order of magnitude, not an official calculation
The Federal Pension Service calculates your pension year by year, taking into account the actual salary of each year, capped and revalued according to coefficients specific to that particular year. Reconstructing this calculation would require knowing 45 historical values that most visitors don't know, this tool therefore uses a single average salary you estimate, to give an order of magnitude, not an official figure.
The salary cap, the most common trap
Many high-earning employees think their entire salary counts toward their pension calculation. In reality, an annual salary cap (€82,608.94 in 2026) limits the portion of salary taken into account, beyond that, every additional euro does not improve your future pension.
What this tool does not do
Does not cover: self-employed, mixed careers, assimilated periods with their own caps, supplementary pension, survivor pension, or pension-activity combination. For a company director's supplementary pension, see our IPT, 80% rule tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does this amount match my actual future pension?
No. This is an educational order of magnitude based on an average salary you estimate yourself, not a calculation integrating your actual career year by year (each year has its own salary cap and revaluation coefficient). For your actual amount, check mypension.be.
Why is my salary capped in the calculation?
The Federal Pension Service applies an annual salary cap (€82,608.94 in 2026): beyond that, every additional euro of salary no longer counts in the pension calculation. This is the most common misunderstanding for high earners, who often overestimate their future pension.
Why 45 years and not more?
The normal career duration for an employee is 45 years. A longer career does not increase the pension beyond this cap, this is the career unit.
Does this tool cover self-employed or mixed careers?
No. The self-employed formula (historical flat rates, ongoing convergence reform) and mixed-career formulas are too different to integrate with a single average salary without guessing data. mypension.be remains the reference for these situations.
What is the guaranteed minimum pension?
If your career reaches at least 30 years (2/3 of a full career) and your calculated pension is below a legal minimum, it can be raised to that minimum, pro-rated to your number of career years (full amount × years/45). Our tool applies this calculation from 30 career years onward, with the full amount only from 45 years.
What is the "minimum right per year" (DMA)?
This is a separate mechanism from the guaranteed minimum pension: from 15 years of employed career onward, each year is calculated at whichever is more favourable between your actual salary and an annual floor set by the SFPD (€33,418.99 in 2026). Our tool applies this floor if your stated average salary is below that amount.
What is the difference with the supplementary pension (2nd pillar)?
The state pension (1st pillar) is what is calculated here. The supplementary pension (2nd pillar, IPT for directors or group insurance for employees) is added on top. See our IPT, 80% rule tool for company directors.
